Review: Finding Purpose Beyond our Pain

Today, I am writing a review in hopes that you will read a new book entitled, FINDING PURPOSE BEYOND OUR PAIN. The authors are Dr. Paul Meier and Dr. David Henderson. Both authors are Christian medical doctors specializing in psychiatry. This book covers seven "inevitables" of life......injustice, rejection, loneliness, loss, discipline, failure and death. The book is divided into these seven sections where the authors discuss their take on each of these inevitables from both a psychological and spiritual perspective. The book is laid out in a way that you could read only on one of the topics independent of the others. This is a helpful layout feature in my opinion. At the end of each section, there is a thumbnail review, followed by several application questions that are personal and enable one to process through each issue and to reflect on the truth. The premise of the book is that pain is not "the enemy". God can use any circumstance, even our pain, to bring about good things in our lives. The darkness may be exactly what we need in order to see the light of His presence and purpose shining all around us. Purpose comes from pain when we take the struggles of life and allow them to set us apart for unique opportunities that God has in store for us; the power to cope with the pain life has thrown at us comes in focusing on its purpose. I think you will enjoy the insights that this book has to offer, just as I have.

Book Review - What Difference Do It Make?

This book, by Ron Hall and Denver Moore, is a meaningful sequel to Same Kind of Different As Me. Once again, it is interestingly written with both authors writing alternate chapters and telling their story from two different perspectives. This keeps the writing very interesting. In this book, you will enjoy learning more about the background and upbringing of both men. Ron tells a great deal about his broken relationship to his father and how those issues are resolved before his father's death.

Also, this book is full of vignettes of people who were moved to action to become involved personally with giving themselves to the needy and homeless. To me, this "proves" that the original book was a success! After all, was that not the "goal" of the original book? It's one thing to be moved by a good story; it's another completely different thing to be "moved to action". Debbie Hall, Ron Hall's wife, would be so pleased to see and to know the end result of her stepping outside the comforts of wealth and prestige to get her hands dirty feeding the homeless of Fort Worth. I dare you to read this story!! You will be different at the end.

Welcome!

Ladies:

Welcome to the blogspot for the Ladies of One Heart Church (LOOH)! This is our preview attempt at connecting with those of you who have internet access and want to keep current with the happenings of what is going on with the ladies of our church. This promises to be an effective tool for us to communicate announcements, conduct surveys, post calendar events, sign up for Bible studies and events, and comment on questions. It is incredible that we can use today's technologies in such a way! I hope you will become a frequent visitor to our blog and add it to your reader. Hopefully, this will be the first of MANY communications we have with each other!

I'll close with this thrilling promise from God's word for today:

Psalm 145:18 (NIV)

"You are near to all who call upon You,
to all who call upon you in truth".

You can take that one to the spiritual bank!!

Again, WELCOME!
